Have you ever felt like life was falling apart and nothing made sense? Like the very ground beneath your feet was shaking, and you had nothing left to hold on to? Maybe you’ve whispered in the quiet of your heart, “God, where are You?”
You’re not alone. I’ve been there too. We all have.
One morning, I found myself sitting on the edge of my bed with tears streaming down my face. My heart was shattered after receiving news that felt like a blow to my chest.
In that moment, all I could do was whisper, “Jesus, help me.” And He did. Not with an instant miracle, but with a calm assurance that He was with me.
That, my friend, is what unshakable faith is all about trusting God when everything else crumbles.
Unshakable faith isn’t loud or flashy. It’s that quiet strength that keeps you standing when everything around you screams for you to fall. Jesus described it best:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” – Matthew 7:24 (NIV)
Let’s talk about how you can build that kind of faith—not just for Sundays, but for every single day, especially the hard ones.
I. What is faith and why does it shake?
Faith, in its simplest form, is trusting God even when you can’t see Him working. It’s believing in His goodness when your world feels bad.
It’s holding on to hope when the diagnosis is terminal, the bank account is empty, or the tears won’t stop falling. It’s not always pretty. It’s not always perfect. But it is powerful.
The Bible defines it beautifully:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)
But here’s the truth: even strong faith can feel shaky sometimes. Why? Because life is unpredictable. Maybe you’ve prayed for something for years and haven’t seen the answer.
Or maybe you’ve suffered loss after loss and wonder if God still hears you. These moments don’t make you a bad Christian, they make you human.
Sometimes, our faith shakes because we focus more on our problems than on God’s promises. We forget how faithful He’s been in the past.
We isolate ourselves when we should be drawing closer to fellow believers.
And sadly, we often believe the enemy’s whispers more than God’s Word.
As Elisabeth Elliot once said,
“Faith does not eliminate questions. But faith knows where to take them.”
Take your questions to Jesus. He’s not afraid of them. In fact, He welcomes them.
II. The foundations of unshakable faith
1. Knowing Who God Is
You cannot trust someone you don’t know. The same applies to God. Many times, our faith shakes because we’re not rooted in the truth of who He is. God is not just a distant Creator, He is a loving Father, a faithful Friend, a Redeemer, and a Comforter.
When I lost my job years ago, I panicked. I didn’t know how I’d make rent or buy groceries.
But in those quiet, desperate prayers, I felt God whisper, “I am Jehovah Jireh—your Provider.” And true to His name, He provided. Friends brought meals.
A neighbor slipped an envelope of cash under my door. Someone paid my light bill anonymously. God showed me who He was.
The Psalmist said,
“Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.” – Psalm 9:10 (NIV)
Faith begins with knowing God’s character. He is not a man that He should lie. He is not fickle, unreliable, or moody. When you know who He is, your heart learns to trust Him even when your eyes don’t see the full picture.
2. Rooting Yourself in God’s Word
One of the biggest game-changers in my faith journey was learning to anchor myself in God’s Word. The Bible isn’t just a religious book, it’s your life manual, your love letter, and your weapon in battle. When life throws lies at you, the Word reminds you of the truth.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17 (KJV)
I remember when I was battling anxiety, I wrote out scriptures on sticky notes and placed them all over my house—on my bathroom mirror, on the fridge, in my car. Verses like “Fear not, for I am with you” (Isaiah 41:10) became my daily fuel. Slowly, those words began to shape my thoughts and steady my heart.
If you’re just getting started, begin small. Read a Psalm each day. Listen to the Bible while cooking. Meditate on one promise per week. The goal is not quantity but connection. Let the Word of God dwell in you richly, like a dear friend who speaks truth when you need it most.
3. Prayer: The Faith Builder
Prayer isn’t about fancy words or spiritual formulas. It’s simply talking to God like a friend. Pouring out your heart, your joys, your fears, your hopes. And then listening for His response.
There were seasons I didn’t know what to pray. All I could say was, “Jesus, help me.” And you know what? That was enough. Prayer connects your heart to God’s, and in that connection, faith is built.
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.” – Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)
Joyce Meyer once said,
“Prayer is simply talking to God like a friend and should be the easiest thing we do each day.”
Even if you feel like you’re not good at praying—start. Whisper to Him while washing dishes. Speak to Him in the car. God hears it all, and He responds with love.
III. Living out your faith in daily life
Faith isn’t just something you carry to church on Sundays. It’s what you live out on Monday morning when your child is sick or when the doctor gives you bad news.
It’s choosing to believe God’s promises even when your circumstances scream otherwise.
Years ago, I met a widow named Mama Grace. Despite losing her husband and two children, she had a radiant smile and unshakable peace.
I once asked her, “How do you keep going?” She gently replied, “Baby, I trust the One who holds my tomorrow—even when I don’t understand today.” That, right there, is living faith.
“We walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)
Choose to walk by faith daily. Speak God’s promises over your life. Refuse to let fear have the final say. Praise God even when you’re still in the valley. The more you practice faith, the more natural it becomes—like breathing.
IV. Faith in the fire: trusting god in tough times
There will be seasons in life where everything feels like fire—loss, sickness, betrayal, hardship. But the beautiful truth is: God is with you in the fire.
He doesn’t always take you out of the storm; sometimes, He walks you through it.
The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego reminds us that even in the fire, God shows up. They were thrown into the furnace, but not alone.
The king saw a fourth man walking with them, Jesus.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you… when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned.” – Isaiah 43:2 (NKJV)
I’ve walked through fires I never thought I’d survive. But every time, I came out stronger, not because I’m strong, but because God was with me.
Faith isn’t about avoiding pain—it’s about knowing you’re never alone in it.
“Sometimes God calms the storm. Sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child.”
V. Surround yourself with faith-filled people
You were never meant to walk this journey alone. One of the enemy’s greatest tactics is isolation. But faith grows in community.
Surround yourself with people who will remind you of God’s promises when you forget.
“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)
When I was at my lowest, a group of women from church surrounded me in prayer and love. They didn’t have all the answers, but their presence was healing.
Find your people—those who will pray with you, worship with you, cry with you, and remind you of who you are in Christ.
Join a Bible study. Call a friend to pray. Sing hymns with your neighbor. Faith multiplies when we walk together.
VI. Remember his faithfulness
Sometimes, the greatest faith booster is looking back. Hasn’t God been good? Hasn’t He shown up for you before? When you remember His faithfulness, your heart learns to trust Him again.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” – Psalm 103:2 (KJV)
Start a journal. Write down every answered prayer, every miracle—big or small. When the storm comes again (and it will), flip back and remind yourself: If He did it before, He’ll do it again.
God’s faithfulness is not seasonal. It’s eternal. And He’s writing your story with His love—even when the pages feel heavy.
Beloved, life will shake you. But when your faith is rooted in Christ, you will not fall. Jesus is the Rock that never crumbles.
He is the Anchor in every storm. And He is calling you—today—not just to believe in Him, but to build your life on Him.
“The storms may come, but you are not alone. God is with you, and He is building something eternal in you. Don’t give up. Don’t let go. Faith is not about feelings—it’s about knowing who holds your future.”
If you’re reading this and feel far from God, or maybe you’ve lost your faith along the way, I want to invite you to pray this simple prayer:
“Lord Jesus, I want to trust You again. I want to build my life on You, my solid rock. Forgive me for the times I doubted, the times I wandered. I surrender my heart to You afresh. Strengthen my faith, draw me close, and never let me go. From this day forward, I am Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
If this message stirred your heart, don’t let it stop here. Faith is a journey and you were never meant to walk it alone.
